Heal Your Skin From The Inside-Out

THE INSIDE environment deeply impacts the OUTSIDE layers of skin.

Good skin needs to be nourished and healed from the inside.

What is skin?

The largest organ of your body! It is a major component of the INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM which includes your hair, skin and nails. This system helps protect your body, regulate temperature, and acts as a barrier against the outside world.

Your skin has three main layers:

Epidermis ~ the outermost layer of skin. It acts as your first line of defence, protecting the body from bacteria, environmental damage, UV exposure, and water loss. This layer is constantly renewing itself as new skin cells are produced.

Dermis ~ the middle layer, which contains blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles and sweat glands. The dermis provides strength and elasticity to the skin, and allows you to feel sensations like touch, pressure, temperature and pain.

Hypodermis (subcutaneous layer) ~ the deepest layer of skin made up mostly of fat and connective tissue. This layer helps insulate the body, cushion internal structures, and store energy while supporting the layers above it.

Functions of your skin

Your skin has many FUNCTIONS! Here are just a few!

  • protection from germs, UV light, chemical and physical injuries.
  • touch and sensory organ for environmental feedback
  • regulates body temperature
  • makes Vitamin D!

How to nourish your skin

Hydration, protein, healthy fats, minerals, wholefoods and a healthy microbiome are essential.

The gut microbiome and the skin microbiome are deeply connected. The gut microbiome can impact susceptibility to allergies, food intolerances and the overall health of your skin.

FEED the microbiome

Fibre-rich foods and fermented foods (such as yoghurt, saurkraut, kefir and kimchi) can help support a healthy microbiome and in turn support healthy skin.

BLOCKS to healing skin

Food intolerances and food allergies may be holding you back from healing. If you suspect this may be the case, identifying potential food triggers is an important first step.

During a consultation we can help investigate possible food-related issues, and if needed, testing may help provide further answers.

When it all gets too much…

Dermatitis, acne, dryness, eczema and hives can feel overwhelming.

We are here to help support and heal the skin using naturopathic tools, including food as medicine, personalised herbal blends, and probiotics to support microbiome health.
